Solution

The correct option is D

Z value

A survivorship curve is constructed for cohorts of different species and groups, and it is an indicator of the population growth strategies and survival. It does not take into account human interference and therefore, does not account for habitat fragmentation. Migration is a behavioural adaptation of animals. Migratory animals and birds are severely affected by habitat fragmentation, because they lose safe paths through which they can migrate and also lose habitats they intend to reach. Carrying capacity of a habitat is defined as the total number of individuals of the population that the habitat can sustain; therefore when habitats are fragmented, their carrying capacity decreases. Z value is the slope in the species-area relationship (log S = log C + Z log A). Z value is an indicator of the size of the area. Larger areas like the continents and biomes have higher Z values. Therefore, Z value decreases when habitats are fragmented or lost.
