Question

Had there been no moon, what would have been the effect on tidal waves??

Open in App
Solution

We can defined tide as a rise and fall of sea level which is caused by the combined effect of the gravitational forces which exerted by the sun ,moon and earth.
since as we know that the sun is much more farther away from the sea level and moon is much near to the the sea level so the gravitational force exerted by the sun is less than that of moon . In the absence of moon tides would have less sustantial high and low tides .however their would have tide due to the gravitational force exerted by the sun and the earth.
Even though the sun pulls on the ocean more than the moon does ,the diffrence between its pull on the front and back side of the earth is less than the case is with the moon and its diffrence that determines the height of the tidal bulge.
