Haemoglobin present in blood that transports which of these following gases?
Oxygen
Carbon dioxide
Haemoglobin is a compound of iron and protein that is present in the blood. It is also a pigment that gives the characteristic red colour. its main function is to transport oxygen and some amounts of carbon dioxide as well. Most of the oxygen is transported primarily by binding to haemoglobin whereas only 20-25% of carbon dioxide is transported by binding to haemoglobin of which about 70% of it is transported as carbonate ions and around 3% by simple diffusion. Nitrogen and hydrogen gases are not normally transported by the blood.
