Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden is 36 m . If the length is 4 m more than its width , find the dimension of garden.

Let the width of garden = x m

Let the length of garden = y = x + 4 m

Half of the perimeter $=\frac{1}{2}\times 2(l+b)$

= l + b

$x+x+4=35\Rightarrow 2x+4=36$

$\Rightarrow 2x+36-4=32\Rightarrow x=\frac{32}{2}=16$

x = 16 m , x + 4 = 16 + 4 = 20m

$x+y=36,y=x+4\Rightarrow x-y=-45$

20 16 (20,16) 16 20 (16,20)

The lines intersecting at point (16, 20)

$\therefore$ The width of the garden = 16

$\therefore$ The length of garden = 20 m
