Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden whose length is 4 m more than its width is 36 m. Find the dimensions of the garden.
Length = 20 m, breadth = 16 m
Let the length of the garden be x and the breadth be y.
Then, half the perimeter
⇒12×2(x+y)=36
⇒x+y=36…(1)
Also given,
x−y=4 … (2)
Adding (1) and (2),
2x=40
⇒x=20
Putting x = 20 in (2),
20−y=4
⇒y=16.
Therefore, length = 20 m and
breadth = 16 m.
