Let the length of the garden be $x$ and the breadth be $y$.
Then, half the perimeter
$\Rightarrow \frac{1}{2}\times 2(x+y)=36$
$\Rightarrow x+y=36\dots \left(1\right)$

Also given,
$x-y=4$ … (2)

Adding (1) and (2),
$2x=40$
$\Rightarrow x=20$

Putting $x$ = 20 in (2),
$20-y=4$
$\Rightarrow y=16.$

Therefore, length = 20 m and
breadth = 16 m.
