Question

HALOGENS OF GROUP 7 OF THE PERIODIC TABLE ARE PRESENT IN ACIDS ( LIKE FLOURINE IN HF , CHLORINE IN HCl ,BROMINE IN HBr AND IODINE IN HI ) SO IS ASTATINE(At) AN EXCEPTION OR IS IT ALSO PRESENT IN SOME ACID ?

Solution

Dear student

All the halogens occur as halides, like HF, HCl , HBr, but Astatine is not available in this form.
This is because, Astatine is a radioactive element, and has a very short half life. It is thus not capable of forming a diatomic molecule unlike other halogens. So because of its high reactivity it does not form halides.
