Solution

Step-1: Find fraction of blue rocks:

We know that PA+PA=1, where PA is the probability of event A and PA is the probability of event not A.

It is given that 23 of the rocks are purple.

Remainingrocks=1-23Remainingrocks=13

It is also given that, 34 of the remainder are blue.

Bluerocks=34×13Bluerocks=14

Step-2: Find fraction of silver rocks:

Fractionofsilverrocks=1-Fractionofpurplerocks+Fractionofbluerocks

Substituting 23for fraction of purple rocks and 14 for fraction of blue rocks, we have

Fractionofsilverrocks=1-23+14=1-24+312TakingLCM=1-8+312=1-1112=12-1112TakingLCMFractionofsilverrocks=112

Step-3: Find total number of rocks:

Let x be the total number of rocks Hannah have.

It is given that there are 3 silver rocks.

Since the silver rocks are 112 of x, then

112×x=3x=3×12Oncrossmultiplicationx=36

Hence, Hannah have 36 space rocks.
