The porch is in the shape of a rectangle.

We know,
Area of a rectangle = Length × Breadth
Area of a square = Side × Side

Now,
Length of the porch = 14 ft
Breadth of the porch = 12 ft

∴ Area of the porch = 14 × 12 = 168 sq ft

Area of each tile = Side × Side
= 2 × 2
= 4 sq ft

So, the number of tiles laid = 168 ÷ 4
= 42 tiles
