Let the investment at $12 %$ rate be $x$ .
So, investment at $10 % = 12000 - x$
Total profit $= 1280$
$10 % \times (12000 - x) + 12 % \times x = 1280 \Rightarrow 1200 - \frac{x}{10} + \frac{3 x}{25} = 1280 \to \frac{x}{50} = 80 \Rightarrow x = 4000$
