After the Umayyad Caliphate, Arab was ruled by the Abbasids. Harun al-Rashid was the fifth ruler of this dynasty. He was one of the most famous among the Abbasid Caliphs. He was known for being benevolent as he implemented many welfare measures for the people in his kingdom.
During his reign, hospitals were established for the first time in Arabia. The judicial administration was based on principals of Islam. The rule of law was strictly observed. People were also free to travel.
Harun al-Rashid established contacts with the Holy Roman Empire. He also sent ambassadors to the Palace of Charlemagne.
