Question

Heavy rocks are easily carried by fast flowing rivers . Why?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

The force that is created by the movement of the flowing water is more than the normal force that is exerted by the rock to stay at rest, which is possessed by the rock due to its mass.
Thus, the flowing water is able to overcome the normal force or the rock and the rock can hence be carried away by the flow of the river.
