Hello,

I'm pretty confused what is the value of R (Gas constant) 8.31 or 0.0831 why do we use different values ,And on what basis should we determine which value of R to be used

Please help !

You should always remember the 3 Basic Values Of R by heart and make sure never to confuse yourself among them. These are:

0.0821 Litre atm per Kelvin per Mole - when Pressure in atm and Volume in litres

8.314 Joule per Kelvin per Mole (SI UNIT) -when pressure in pascals and volume in cubic metre

1.987=2 Calorie per Kelvin per Mole - Pressure in Dyne per sqaure centimetre and Volume in cubic centimeters or Pressure in Pascal and Volume in cubic metres.
