Higher the frequency of the sound wave, _________ is its pitch.
Thus, higher the frequency of the sound wave, high is its pitch.
Fill in the blanks :
(a) The time period of a wave is 2 s. Its frequency is ___.
(b) The pitch of a stringed instrument is increases by ___ tension in string.
(c) The pitch of a flute is decreased by ___ length of air column.
(d) Smaller the emebrene, ___ is the pitch.
(e) If a drum is beaten hard, its loudness ___ .
(f) A tuning fork produces sound of ___ frequency.
What happens to the pitch of a sound if its frequency increases ?
Which produces sound of a higher pitch : a drum or a whistle ?
Correct the whole passage-
The amplitude of vibration of a sound wave determines its pitch. The higher the frequency of the sound wave, the lower is its pitch, and hence shriller is the sound produced. Similarly, a sound wave of lower frequency has a low pitch and hence a shriller sound is produced. For example, a man's voice is shriller than a woman's voice. Some examples of low pitch sounds are the screaming of a child and the buzzing of mosquitoes whereas examples of high pitch sounds are the beating of a drum and the roaring of a lion.
