Himadri, Himachal and Shivalik are said to be longitudinal extent even if they range from north to south. why?

Dear Student,

The Himalayas consists of three parallel ranges in the LONGITUDINAL EXTENT which means that an area covering from Jammu and Kashmir in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the east. In this longitudinal extent the north to south divisions( if you look at them horizontally ) are Himadri, Himachal and Shivaliks.
