Heavy industry is nothing but manufacturing of heavy machinery, equipment and bulk tools. Heavy engineering industry started in India after independence. Before that India depended solely on imports. Setting up of Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) gave a major boost to heavy industries in India. Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) was established in the year 1958 at Ranchi.
