How are active and passive absorption of minerals different from each other?

In active absorption of minerals, the movement of ions across membrane takes place against concentration gradient and energy is consumed in the process. whereas, in passive absorption, the movement of ions across membrane takes place according to concentration gradient and no energy is consumed in the process. A specific carrier is involved in active absorption whereas no carrier is involved in passive absorption.
