Drainage systems are constructed to avoid eutrophication of large water bodies. In many cases, the wastewater is recycled and reused. However, sometimes wastewater is used as a nutrient for algae. Algal biomass could be used for various purposes like the development of fertilizers. The nutrients to increase the biomass was obtained from sewage water as it contains nitrogen and phosphorous. Hence, this shows algae could be used for sewage disposal.
