How are allergies caused?

Open in App
Solution

Allergy: These are the immediate response caused due to hypersensitivity of an organism to various stimuli like pollen grains, dust, chalk powder, etc.

  1. Allergies are caused when an allergen (the cause of allergy) comes in contact with the person allergic to it.
  2. This activates the person's immune system and leads to the generation of a specific antibody called immunoglobulin E.
  3. This results in a release of histamine into the bloodstream thereby leading to itchiness, rashes, and skin breakouts.
  4. Allergies may either be harmless or fatal depending on the extent of activation of the immune system.
