Question

How are carbon oxygen double bonds shorter than single bonds?

Open in App
Solution

The pi bond in C=O has no fixed electronic distribution. The reason is oxygen electronegativity is more than the carbon. So it has C+-O- structure, due to which the bond length is shorter than single bond length.
