How are echoes used in medicines ?

Open in App
Solution

The principle of echo is utilized in ultrasonography to image the internal organs of human beings and animals. In ultrasonography an ultrasonic sound wave is passed into the human body and the reflected rays are recorded on a detector. Now as ultrasonic waves pass through the different internal organs, they have different speeds in different tissues moreover the sound waves have different rates of absorption in those tissues. Thus when the reach the detector an image can be generated depending upon the different intensity profile of the wave. Now if some abnormalities are there like stones, tumour, etc, it can be detected as well.
