Question

How are errors that occur during DNA replication repaired?

Open in App
Solution

DNA polymerase enzyme is one of the important enzymes of replication of DNA. The DNA polymerase 1 enzyme carries out the DNA replication and participate in the repair and proofreading of DNA by catalysing the addition of mononucleotide units.
A normal DNA polymerase I catalyze the repair activity and remove the nucleotides residue of primer RNA.
Many enzymes are also involved in this repair mechanism where the endonucleases cut the defective part of DNA and then the gap is filled with DNA polymerase I and finally the DNA ligase fills that part. This is known as the proof-reading of DNA.
