Question

How are fats digested in our body? Where does this take place?

Open in App
Solution

The digestion of fats begins in the small intestine. Bile and pancreatic juice are released into the small intestine.
The bile contains bile salts that act on the large fat globules and convert them into smaller droplets coated with bile salts. This process is called emulsification.
After emulsification, pancreatic lipase breaks down the emulsified fat.
Enzymes present in the intestinal juices breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol.
