Gamma radiation ($\gamma$) is produced when nucleus is in a state of excitation (i.e.,unstable state or it has an excess of energy). This extra energy is released in the form of electromagnetic radiation known as $\gamma$-radiation when it falls back to stable state.

Common properties of gamma radiations and visible light are:

i. Both are electromagnetic waves, they both can travel with the speed of $3\times {10}^{8}m{s}^{-1}$ in vacuum.
