Genetically modified crops:
Genetically modified plants are the ones that have been altered with the help of biotechnology and there have been either addition or subtraction of one gene or more.
This removal or addition of genes can provide certain characteristics to the genetically modified(GM) plant and thus it can produce a superior quality of crops with the required character.
GM crops have a better nutritional quality than the unmodified ones.
They are more resistant to pests.
They are more resistant to floods and drought, also extremely cold and saline environments.
It also in improving crop yield.
Example Bt cotton and Bt Brinjal which is modified with the help of the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis.
