How are heat and temperature related?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Heat and temperature are two correlated concepts, having different physical meanings.
  2. The Temperature of a system is the measure of the average translational kinetic energy of the constituents of the system.
  3. Temperature can be measured in kelvin (K), degree celcius (°C), and degree fahrenheit (°F).
  4. SI unit of temperature is kelvin (K).
  5. Heat is a form of energy.
  6. Heat is thermal energy in transit, as two bodies of different temperatures come in contact with one another heat as a form of energy gets transferred from the body from higher temperature to lower temperature.
  7. The heat will always flow from a hotter body to a colder body or from a body at a higher temperature to a body at a lower temperature.
  8. SI unit of heat is joule (J).
