Hydrides- When the hydrogen bond is formed with the metal having high reactivity form hydrides. They are binary compounds which means two compounds are involved.

Classification of Hydrides are

Hydrides are classified into three categories which are:

  1. Covalent Hydrides - These types of hydrogen bonds are mainly formed with p block elements. These bonds have weak Vander Wall forces among them. They have low melting and boiling point. Example-HCl, HF.
  2. Ionic Hydrides - These types of hydrogen bonds are mainly formed with s block elements. They have high melting and boiling point. Example-NaH, BeH2 .
  3. Metallic Hydrides - These types of hydrogen bonds are mainly formed with d block and f block elements. These hydrides are formed by the reaction of dihydrogen with d and f block elements. Due to the small size of dihydrogen, the hydrogen enters the interstitial site of metal.so, these are known as interstitial hydrides. Example-LaH2​,T2​H2​,CrH3​
