How are ice and fire similar to each other though they have contradictory traits?

Fire and ice both act as means of destruction of the world. Both degrade humans at an internal level. Their effect at the start might be invisible but in the long term, they can cause visible damage. Both these elements have a negative connotation of desire and hatred respectively. Though their means are different, their end will be the same.
