How are meristems classified based on their functions?

On the basis of their functions meristems are classified into three types.
  1. Protoderm meristem --outermost layer which devolopes to form epidermal tissue system.
  2. Procambium meristem- composed of narrow ,elongated meristematic cells that gives rise to vascular tissue system.
  3. Ground meristem- composed of large ,thick -walled cells which devolopes to ground tissue system.
