Dear Student,
Akbar marked the beginning of the history of Mughal architecture. He was inspired by Indian architecture and local talents. The tombs build had a very high towering central dome and tall gateways, also known as pishtaqs. One of the first tombs that were built during Akbar's reign was Humayun's tomb. The tomb was constructed in the middle of a beautiful garden and the central hall was surrounded by eight rooms (traditionally known as the "eight paradises"). The building was constructed with red sandstone. Some important common features that are noticed among the building built during Akbar's reign are :
Most of them were built using red sandstone. (e.g., Red Fort, Lahore Fort)
They included Hindu-Muslim art traditions.
The building was constructed for civilian purposes.
The period of Shah Jahan is known as the Golden Period of Mughal Architecture. The audience halls were specially constructed with the resemblance of a mosque. It adapted riverfront gardens and used white marbles instead of red sandstones. The Taj Mahal is one of the best-known pieces of the architectural marvels of Shah Jahan's time. Regards.
