How are the elements with variable valency named?

Elements have different capacities to combine with different elements is called variable valency.
The suffix " ous " is used to present the lower valency of an element.
The suffix “ ic ” is used to present the higher valency of an element.
For example, the ferrous oxide (Fe²⁺) here, the valency of iron is +2, whereas in ferric oxide (Fe³⁺) the valency of iron is +3.
