  1. Winds are the convection currents.
  2. Some parts of Earth's surface are hotter than others.
  3. The warm air rises over the hot surfaces and cooler denser air takes its place.
  4. Trade winds are caused when hot air from the equator rises and cooler air from the north and south take its place.
