Solution

Vinegar consists of about 5–20% acetic acid. Acetic acid bacteria (Acetobacter aceti) oxidize ethyl alcohol into acetic acid. It is widely used in pickling and cooking.
Hides are cleaned of their fat, hair and other attached tissues by bacterial action. Commercial sponges are cleaned similarly.
