Question

How can a chemical equation be read?
Example,
How will I read👇
Zn+H2SO4 ➡ZnSO4+H2⬆

Open in App
Solution

A chemical reaction has two parts, the reactant part and the product part. Reactants are the elements or compounds that undergo reaction. Products are the resultant compounds of the reaction.

A chemical reaction equation must be balanced ,should indicate catalysts or other elements if present and should provide a clear information about the reaction.

Similarly there is a method in reading the reactions. In the given example

Zn+H2SO4--->ZnSO4+H2

This should be read as

Zinc on reaction with sulphuric acid gives zinc sulphate with the evolution of hydrogen gas.
It is better to mention the nature of acid, concentrated or dilute in the reaction. Number of moles should also be told. Here there is only mole for each.
