Question

How can a flute produces sound even though there is nothing like string to vibrate

Open in App
Solution

For sound to be produced by a body, vibrations should necessarily occur in the body. Every vibrating body will radiate energy to the surroundings. sound is the one of such energies.

The flute is a hollow pipe. When air is blown over its mouth, the air inside the pipe is set into vibration. As a result, a pleasant sound is produced.

Since the sound produced by a flute is produced because of the vibration of the air molecules in the flute. Hence it doesn't require string like components.
