Potassium chloride can be separated from the mixture by heating the mixture slowly in a china dish and placing an inverted funnel having its top covered on the china dish. Potassium chloride with sublimate and stick to the solution

The remaining mixture can be separated by mixing it with water and passing it through filter paper. Sand will be left in the filter paper. The iodine-water mixture can the be evaporated to obtain solid iodine
