Question

How can I calculate percentage error of colour coding of resistor ?

Open in App
Solution

Calculating the error percentage of color code resistor mainly deals with calculating the tolerance.
Tolerance can be found using last color given in the resistor color code.
Once the tolerance is found out you can easily calculate error as follows.
Take the example of tolerance=10% for a resistor value of 1000 ohm
In this case the value lies between 900 to 1100 ohm while we consider the tolerance.
In this case the error is 100 ohm.
ie ,that is obtained by substracting the obtained value from true value.
Which is (100/1000)=10%
So basically the error value is same as that of tolerance in the case of color coded resistor.
But if the true value is given in question, you can use the method shown in the previous answer.
