Question

How can inductance be reduced?

Open in App
Solution

Explanation:

We have several physical factors which affect the inductance of a coil such as:

  1. The number of turns in the coil.
  2. The diameter of the coil, the coil length. the.
  3. Type of material used in the core.
  4. And the number of layers of winding in the coils.

As we know,

L=μN2Al

Where,

L= Inductance H

μ= Permeability WbAm

N= The coil’s number of turns

A= Area of the coil.

l= Length of the coil m.

From the above equation of inductance, the inductance of the coil is directly proportional to the permeability, the number of turns of the coil, and area of the coil and inversely proportional to the length of the coil.

Therefore inductance can be reduced as:

  1. If the number of turns of the wire is decreased.
  2. If the area of the coil is decreasing.
  3. If the core material with lesser permeability.

Hence, the inductance can be reduced due to the effect of physical factors.
