Solution
Dear student,
Land degradation is the loss of productivity of the land due to climatic or man-made factors like urbanisation. It is caused due to the erosion or loss of the rich fertile topsoil of land which makes it barren and also prone to natural disasters like flood or landslides. This is especially true of hilly regions as there is no topsoil to slow down the surface run off during heavy rainfalls.
Two methods to mitigate damage caused by landslides-
Demarcating landslide prone areas and accordingly plan the future development activities.
