Dear Student,
Mendeleev's Classification :
" The Physical and Chemical Properties of elements are a Periodic function of their Atomic Weights" .
Modern Periodic table:
" The Physical and Chemical Properties of all the elements are periodic functions of their Atomic numbers.
Difference!
Mendeleev's Periodic table:
No Place for isotopes of elements.
Dissimilar Atoms were placed in the same group.
Similar Atoms placed in same group.
It failed to give the Idea of Atomic structure.
It has 8 vertical columns allied groups and 12 horizontal rows called Periods.
Modern Periodic Table:
The Existence of isotopes showed that the atomic mass of an element is not the fundamental property of an element.
The Elements having similar properties are repeated at regular intervals.
It contains 7 horizontal rows called Periods and 16 vertical columns called Groups!!
