How can paper have a low ignition temperature while its raw material, wood has a high ignition temperature?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
ignition is the minimum temperature at which a substance burns.
Paper is made from cellulose fibres, which burn very readily, thus making the ignition temperature of paper very low.
The ignition temperature of wood, on the other hand depends upon the moisture, density, cellulose material and the type of wood. This makes the ignition temperature of wood high.
