Question

How can plants be grown under limited water supply without compromising on metabolic activities?

Open in App
Solution

Transpiration

Plants lose the majority of their water through transpiration. Since the plant is given limited water, the rate of transpiration should be reduced to allow for maximum utilisation of the water present in the plant.

Antitranspirants

Anti-transpirants are substances that prevent transpiration from the leaf surfaces. Substances like abscisic acid, aspirin, can be used to check the rate of transpiration without compromising on metabolic activities.
