How can Rh incompatibility pose problems in case of pregnancy?

If the baby has Rh positive blood while the mother has Rh negative, there can be complications. The baby's blood may leak into the mother's circulation and cause antibodies to form in her blood. These antibodies grow with successive pregnancies. This may pass into the baby's blood in sufficient quantities to produce very serious anaemia and even death.
