Open in App
Solution

Displacement is the shortest possible distance. And It CAN be negative, positive or even zero

Displacement is negative when-
Suppose, I start from point X and move 50 m in front and then come back moving 60 m. Clearly, I've moved an extra 10 m. And it will be termed as negative displacement.

Displacement is positive when-
You already know, If I move from point X to pint Y. I've covered certain distance and it can be termed as my positive displacement.

Displacement is zero when-
I move from point X to point Y and then back to point X. This will create 0 displacement. It can also be seen in a circular path where I come back to my original place (Place wherein I started)
