How can we check whether the given substance is pure or not?

Dear Student,

Purity of a substance can be checked by taking its melting or boiling point. If a substance is pure, it will melt or boil sharply otherwise this will happen over a range of temperature.

Also, thin layer chromatography can be used to check the purity. If it gives single spot on the chromatographic plate using different mobile phases, then it is pure.
