Open in App
Solution

Detection of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere:

  • Fit the delivery tubes in the two-holed cork
  • Now, fill half of the test tube with lime water.
  • Fit this cork at the mouth of the test tube.
  • Immeresed the longer tube in the lime water and the shorter tube is above the level of the lime water.
  • Fit the cork tightly.
  • Now, suck the air from the shorter tube, due to this space will create for air to move inside the test tube from a longer tube.
  • The lime water starts turning milky white.
  • The air entering from a longer tube contains carbon dioxide.
  • In this way we can detect the presence of carbon dioxide in the air.
