Question

how can we determine the spin quantum no. of an atomic orbital?

Open in App
Solution

Only a maximum of two electrons can reside in an orbital and that with opposite spins. The electron with up spin (which means it rotates in clockwise direction) is given a spin quantum number value of +1/2 while the electron with down spin (anti-clockwise rotation) is given a value of -1/2.
