Composting:

  1. Composting is a disposal method of kitchen waste.
  2. Kitchen wastes are biodegradable and can convert to manure.
  3. This manure can be used for growing plants.
  4. The conversion of biodegradable wastes into manure is called composting.

Steps involving composting:

  1. Dig a pit that is 30 cm deep in a place where direct sunlight is not available.
  2. Spread a 2cm thick layer of sand on the floor of the pit.
  3. Put garbage over the sand layer.
  4. Also kept cow dung and newspaper in the pit.
  5. Sprinkle some water on it.
  6. Put red worms on the pit.
  7. Cover the pit with a gunny bag or a layer of grass.
  8. The redworms will feed the kitchen waste and their excreta is collected in the pit.
  9. These excreta is collected after 3-4 weeks and this soil-like loose material is called manure.
