Photosynthesis, the process by which green plants and blue-green algae use the energy of light to convert carbon dioxide and water into the simple sugar glucose.
Importance of photosynthesis:
-Synthesis of organic food by using inorganic components along with water and sunlight.
-Heterotrophic organisms depend upon plants for organic food because they aren't able to make food by itself like plants.
-It can convert solar energy into chemical energy.
-All plant products are formed from photosynthetic activity, e.g. oils, resins, fibers, drugs, rubber.
-It absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere which tends to increase due to respiration of organisms and combustion.
-It releases oxygen which is consumed in respiration and combustion.
-It maintains the carbon cycle in between the earth, ocean, animals and plants.
-It is responsible for symbiotic relationships between plants, animals and human beings.
-Photosynthesis is important for autotrophic nutrition and provides foods to heterotrophs.
