Solution

Waste disposal:

  1. All the unusable or unwanted substances are called waste.
  2. All the materials become worthless after their primary use and become defective.
  3. Wastes are broadly defined as biodegradable and non-biodegradable.
  1. Biodegradable: The wastes that are generated in our kitchen and garden. It also included food remains.
  2. Non-biodegradable: Such wastes include plastics, broken glass pieces, etc.

Some of the methods to dispose of waste properly include:

  1. Burning -
  1. Waste materials such as old papers are burnt to dispose of them.
  2. It is also called incineration in which waste materials are put to very high temperatures and are converted to gas or ash.
  3. In the incineration process, controlled combustion is carried out.
  4. The gases that are produced in this process are toxic and harmful, hence they are all treated before releasing them out into the atmosphere.

2. Vermicomposting -

  1. The formation of nutrient-rich manure by degradation of organic matter, using worms is termed vermicomposting.
  2. The worms digest the organic matter and the by-products that are released by them are used for enhancing soil fertility.
  3. In this way, all the organic wastes are disposed of in an environment-friendly manner.
