Glucose do not react with sodium hydrogen sulphite to form bisulphite addition product. This reaction requires free aldehydic group whereas for the reaction with Tollen's reagent, phenyl hydrazine and nitric acid lower concentration of free aldehydic group is sufficient. X-ray analysis of glucose proves the existence of ring structure as well as the size of the ring.
